Part 2: Why I still teach Law
Over the past 10+ years, I've worked as a sixth form college Law teacher, creating resources, delivering lessons, marking work, adapting to new specifications, and continually improving my materials as both the law and exam specifications evolve. More importantly, I've had the privilege of helping students grow in confidence, pursue opportunities, and develop a genuine passion for Law.
One of the things I love most about teaching Law is that you never stop learning yourself. Students often provide perspectives and insights I'd never even considered, and that's one of the reasons I still enjoy teaching today as much as I did when I first started.
I'm definitely not that 22-year-old lad anymore. My hair is going grey, I'm probably developing a few crow's feet, and I now wear glasses! But if you asked me today why I teach Law, my answer would still be the same: I love it, and I hope I'm still good at it. That's because of all the students I've been fortunate enough to teach over the years. They've allowed me to play a small part in their journeys, and they've made teaching feel far more like a privilege than a job. I've simply been happy to help.
About The Law Guy?
Part 1: Why trust The Law Guy?
First of all, you should know that my real name is Duncan, although most people simply call me Dunc. After more than 10 years of teaching A Level Law, alongside other subjects, and several years of examiner experience, I realised I'm in a position to offer support to anyone studying Law.
My main focus is helping A Level and BTEC Law students. However, this website and my other platforms may also help university students who didn't study Law before starting their degree, or those looking for a foundation top-up before or during their university studies.

I still remember attending the interview for the teacher training course (PGCE) I eventually enrolled on at Sheffield Hallam University when I was 22. The first question I was asked was why I wanted to become a teacher.
Without hesitation, I replied that I thought I'd be good at it. Looking back, it was probably a little vague, but it certainly caught my interviewer's attention. When she asked why, I explained that I was passionate about the study of Law and wanted to share that passion by helping others learn it too.
Fast forward a year and a half, and, to both our surprise, she read out my name at the end of the course and presented me with the Outstanding Teacher Award in recognition of "outstanding achievement in practical teaching and academic work whilst undertaking the full-time PGCE in Post-16 and Further Education."
Part 3: Looking ahead
Recently, I realised that we only get one life, and I want to spend mine building a community where I can share my passion for Law and help as many people as possible. I know I'm not a real superhero, but I always wanted to be one growing up. So I'm quite happy to be an ordinary, slightly quirky guy who enjoys pretending to wear a red cape while lending people a helping hand.
My hope is that this website, together with everything else that becomes part of Law with Dunc® | The Law Guy, allows me to share my passion for Law, support students at A Level, BTEC, and university, and show a little of my personality along the way.
Finally, thank you to all of the people who have helped me become the person I am today. To my family at home, my work family, my friends, colleagues, mentors, and, of course, the many students I've had the privilege of teaching over the years—thank you! Each of you has played a part in shaping the man who has reached this point, and this journey wouldn't have been possible without your support.
